Overview

Nestled in the serene setting of Taman Ekoflora, Johor Bahru, Soil is a cafe that beckons those who appreciate both ambiance and artisanal fare. Located at Lot A, Unit SL009 within Spring Lab, its charm lies not just in its minimalist decor and large windows that frame lush surroundings, but also in its thoughtful menu crafted to delight pastry and coffee enthusiasts alike.

Soil’s culinary offerings focus on delicate pastries and refined cafe staples. The croissant selection, including innovative varieties and classics like the buttery Kouign Amann and the tangy Lemon Meringue Tart, exemplifies careful baking techniques. Their croissant donuts and tart custard puffs demonstrate an adventurous yet balanced pastry repertoire. Savory options such as the Salmon Tartine provide a light yet flavorful experience, rounding out the menu beyond sweets.

Coffee at Soil is a defining feature, especially their matcha lattes which have drawn notable praise for their subtle sweetness and well-balanced flavors. Signature drinks like the Mint Mocha and Latte Macchiato show a dedication to nuanced coffee craft, further enhanced by artistic latte art that adds visual appeal to every cup. Although some diners find their brownies and cookies occasionally a touch dry, these pair well with accompaniments like ice cream, mitigating texture concerns.

The cafe offers a relaxed and versatile atmosphere with both indoor air-conditioned seating and outdoor options that resonate with those seeking a quiet retreat or a casual meetup spot. This flexibility attracts a mix of customers—from locals looking for a calm environment to influencers drawn by the scenic backdrop and stylish interiors. While the single-menu system can slow order flow during busy periods, the courteous and attentive service helps maintain a welcoming experience.

Customers have found Soil’s ambiance ideal for unwinding, though some savory dishes might benefit from refinement, such as better searing of the smoked duck breast to enhance texture and flavor. The emphasis on quality drinks and pastries coupled with the cafe’s picturesque location creates a balanced destination for those who prioritize both taste and setting.

In sum, Soil stands out as a tranquil haven where thoughtfully crafted pastries meet expertly brewed coffee, wrapped in a soothing environment. Whether you seek a peaceful afternoon break or a charming spot to share with friends, Soil invites you to savor the moment in Johor Bahru’s emerging cafe scene.

Nice cafe to dine in, good ambient with indoor and outdoor seating. Indoor aircon is quite cooling, and it is a good place to relax. Cake and drink are not too sweet, very nice. Will come back to try other dishes.

Come here quite a long time ago but I remembered that I loved the matcha latte here and could safely say it was one of the best I had which was surprising. The brownie cookie was abit dry but paired really well with the ice cream to balance it out.

Cookie was a tad bit dry, cheesecake was scrumptious. Drinks were great, loved the latte art. Service was impeccable. Would come again!

Very charming little cafe on top of a hill. It is a very attractive place indeed, tasteful and minimalist decor, with big windows overlooking the surroundings. The staff are very nice as well. You order at the counter and pay in advance. There was only 1 menu available for some strange reason... so people were kinda like standing around the counter waiting for the 1 menu to order. It would be more efficient to have several menus people could browse while waiting to order. I ordered a Matcha Yuzu, and an open-faced smoked duck sandwich. The matcha yuzu is good, I like that it was really not sweet. However the duck sandwich can be improved on. The salad is great. But the duck breast was not seared enough, so the fat is not rendered properly, causing it to taste quite gummy, chewy and rubbery. Not a good texture at all. The bread as well was chewy and tough. It was even hard to cut with the knife, so I resorted to just eating it with my hands. I wouldnt say it was a cheap meal, so I sincerely do hope that some improvements can be made.

Visited this influencer cafe and loved the ambiance—it’s definitely a nice spot to chill. The food was just average and didn’t really stand out, but the coffee was pretty good. Worth a visit if you’re there for the vibes.

This cafe takes up a bungalow on a low hill, giving it a nice view of the area. It used to have more climbing vines on its facade, giving it a unique character. Had a couple of drinks and a salmon salad for light lunch before hopping to the cafe next door for desserts. Notably, their yuzu macha (cold) was citrusy and refreshing, a good pairing with  salmon salad. Concluded the visit with a latte for a caffeine boost!

We dropped by around 5 pm, but most of their food was sold out. With a limited menu, I opted for their Big Breakfast, a few drinks, and a cheesecake. Food was fine, but nothing spectacular. Maybe we'll come back another time to try more of their dishes.

Located opposite of Eco Palladium and along Eco Flora. They are a Cafe that is on a hill where it is easy to spot. There is a garden around them and gives off a European vibe. Soil Cafe is a great place to chill and relax while having your morning coffee or afternoon tea. You can choose to either sit in their indoor air conditioned area or their outdoor patio. They have quite a big grass patch as their outdoor patio and you can bring your pets to enjoy it. Their menu is not extensive but sufficient with quite a number of choices. Something will definitely appeal to you with their European food, artisanal coffee and unique tea selections. Definitely drop by when you're around the area to give them a try to experience them for yourselves.
